RECEIVING

We don't need more selfless women 🫶🏻

Remembering ourselves as a part of nature means honouring our cycles and seasons. Living beings have times of giving, and times of receiving. Times of creating, and times of resting. The expectations of constant output many of us are subjected to in a busy, fast, capitalist culture are simply unnatural.

Yet if we’re not careful, we internalize those expectations, impossible and inhumane as they may be, and our inability to meet them can breed so much shame and self-criticism. So we push forwards until we can’t anymore.

“The culture will steal you away from yourself every day,
And you have to steal yourself back every night”
— Dr. Clarissa Pinkola Estés

Many of us raised as girls have learned implicitly and explicitly to base our worth on what we can give others. Caregiving and service work are valuable, sacred endeavours, but they don’t represent the whole story of who we are or what we need to thrive. Our caring nature is often exploited.

It was beautiful to have this conversation with Pascale about how we can open ourselves to reciprocity, balance and wholeness through the act of receiving.

Like a sunflower orienting towards the light, we too can intentionally orient ourselves to receive warmth, care, love and presence from ourselves and from others.

We don’t need more selfless women.
We need whole, powerful, supported women.

In this episode, Cassie and Pascale explore receiving, not as a passive act of taking or a simple exchange of goods, but as a profound way of relating to others and ourselves. Through honest conversation and grounded reflection, they look at how the capacity to receive emerges in our smallest interactions—in the ways we accept help, inhale a compliment, or allow ourselves to be seen—and how mastering it asks for humility, presence, and a softening of the heart.

What does it mean to see receiving as a vital practice of connection, rather than a debt to be repaid? How can we learn to open ourselves to the world’s generosity in a way that transforms not only what we hold, but how we belong to one another?
